Syrian Central Bank is issuing new banknotes of 200, 100 and 50 Syrian pounds denomination. They are issued in 2009 and are to be used next Tuesday. The current banknotes can be still used in the markets.
The Governor of Syrian Central Bank Dr. Adeeb Maialeh said that this is a step within the process of development and updating of the bank. The new banknotes have new drawings and they have several security privileges. The new banknotes reflect the civilian, cultural and historical aspects of Syria and they restrict fraud attempts.
The Governor affirmed that the Bank knows that people are aware enough to maintain the Syrian banknotes in a good shape. Any disfigure or writing on the banknotes compel people to exchange it from Syrian Central Bank and make them lose the chance of using it.
